Anandan Sivamani, also known as Drums Shivamani, is a renowned percussionist and music composer. Born on December 1, 1959, he has made a significant impact in the music industry with his incredible skills and versatility on various instruments, including the goblet drum, Ghatam, and drums.
Sivamani discovered his passion for drumming at a young age. His inspiration was Billy Cobham and Noel Grant. He began his musical journey in Mumbai at the age of 11, playing with esteemed artists like M.S. Viswanathan, K.V. Madhavan, G. Devarajan, Illayaraja, and A.R. Rahman.
Sivamani’s talent as a percussionist led him to perform drums in the IPL championships of 2008 and 2010, representing the Chennai Super Kings team. However, his main recognition came from being a prominent percussionist in A.R. Rahman’s band, where he showcased his exceptional rhythmic abilities.

Sivamani has played drums for numerous film score composers from Tamil Nadu. His drumming has graced many Indian films, including Roja, Rang De Basanti, Swades, Taal, Lagaan, Dil Se.., Guru, Kabul Express, and Rockstar. Some of the notable songs he has contributed to include “Kadhal Rojave,” “Pudhu Vellai Malai,” “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” and “Nadaan Parinde.”
Sivamani has also displayed his acting skills in two Telugu films: Padamati Sandhya Ragam and Sirivennela. He has also acted in the Hindi film Madaari (2016).
In 2009, Sivamani was honored with the Kalaimamani award by the Tamil Nadu government, the highest state honor in the field of arts. He received the prestigious Padma Shri award from the Government of India in 2019, recognizing his immense contribution to music.
